A plumbing emergency is nothing to treat lightly. Nothing inspires panic more than a hot water heater that shuts down in the middle of winter, or the sight of water spreading slowly across your kitchen floor. Unfortunately, such disasters rarely choose the most convenient time to strike, and you may be forced to deal with them in the middle of the night or over a weekend when regular plumbing services aren’t available.
That’s one of the reasons why we offer emergency services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week throughout the Richardson, TX area: ensuring that your plumbing emergencies get handled promptly. But we also believe that you shouldn’t have to pay more than necessary for repairs, and we don’t like seeing people call for emergency services when they don’t have to pay for them. So what constitutes an emergency? When do you need a plumber right away, and when can the situation wait until regular business hours? Only you can make that decision. Generally speaking, however, there are a few concrete guidelines to help you make it:
- Can you shut off the water or the affected appliance? The first step to dealing with the issue is to mitigate the damage. If you’re able to shut off the water to the affected area, turn off the appliance in question, or otherwise prevent the issue from growing worse, then you might not need an emergency plumbing session. If you can’t, then the sooner a pro gets a look at it, the better.
- Once the problem is contained, how long can you wait? In such situations, you might only need to wait a few hours for a regular service session, in which case you should probably sit tight. If it’s going to be longer than that — say, the problem occurs on a Saturday morning, with regular office hours not happening until Monday — then you need to call for an emergency repair session.
