How to Lower the Costs of Heating

Your heating system is one of the most important parts of your home here in Frisco, TX, and with winter coming, it’s going to see use every day soon enough. Extra use means higher bills, and certainly, you’re going to be paying more for heating in the winter than you do in the summer. But just because the bills are spiking doesn’t mean that you need to pay any more than is necessary for it. By taking a few preventative measures, you can make a big difference in those pesky monthly costs. Here’s a list of ideas for you:

  • Change the Filter. All heaters come with a heating filter, designed to strain out dirt and dust from the air. But they need to be changed every few months — at least twice a year and maybe more often, depending on traffic in your home. Doing so not only helps your air stay cleaner and healthier, but keeps dust out of your heating system as well, helping it do its job.
  • Schedule Maintenance. An annual maintenance session at the beginning of heating season will improve efficiency in your system by tightening loose bolts, clearing clogged burners and the like. Not only will it help lower your bills, but when applied over time, it could even extend the life of your system.
  • Install an IAQ Product. IAQ stands for “indoor air quality,” and it refers to things like humidifiers and electronic air filters. Not only do they make the air in your home more pleasant, but they ease the strain on your heating system, helping it do its job more effectively and for less cost to boot. A professional technician can help determine if an IAQ product is right for you.
