If you haven’t run your heater in a few months, now is an ideal time to help prepare your system for the fall. It will pay dividends in the months to come and might even save you a great deal of money and hassle. With a few weeks of relatively warm weather to go, now makes an excellent time to make proper preparations.

It Starts with Maintenance

A maintenance session is a type of tune-up, designed to check the system for possible problems and either fix them immediately (if they’re small) or schedule a more formal repair session (if they require additional work). Lack of use over the summer can create a number of potential issues: anything from excessive dust on moving parts to clogged burners. A maintenance session lets the technician spot them and address them before your heating system needs to be used. In the event that further work is required, the maintenance session lets the technician identify the problem and schedule a repair session before the first cold day arises.

Beyond that, maintenance improves the efficiency of your heating system: allowing it to do its job this winter without using quite so much energy in the process. And it cuts down on wear and tear, which means you run less of a risk of a breakdown this winter.

Consider Upgrades

Unless your heating system is on its last legs (in other words, you don’t expect it to last more than another season or two), you might consider installing an upgrade to it to improve its functionality and provide additional conveniences to make your home more comfortable. Options can include, but are not limited to, the following:

Whole-House Humidifiers. Cold air is dry air, and with it comes a host of problems such as chapped lips and static electricity. A whole-home humidifier takes care of those problems and ensures that the air in your house stays comfortable no matter what.

Air Purifiers. An electronic air purifier can do a superior job of pulling dust and dirt out of the air. That cuts down on wear and tear in the unit, as well as helping to prevent problems like clogged filters and burners, which can cut down on your heater’s efficiency considerably.

Thermostats. Thermostats are designed to last for a long time, which gives you good value for the money. But if yours has been around for a decade or more, it may be time to upgrade to take advantage of new technology in the field. Smart thermostats offer remote control from anywhere in the world via the WiFi in your home, as well as making adjustments based on personal habits and local conditions.

For quality heating services throughout the Sherman, TX area, call upon the friendly professionals at Hutchins Plumbing & Air Conditioning to help!

Fall will be here soon.
